BRIEF OF THE COLLEG
KV Ustad Memorial Darul Hidaya Orphanage Arts and Science College for Women, affiliated with the University of Calicut, was founded to empower rural women. Managed by the Ponnani Taluk Muslim Orphanage Association (PTMOA) under the chairmanship of the socio-political figure, Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal.
The college was established in 2003. It is situated at Pookkarathara, 2 km from Edappal, surrounded by green fields that provide a serene and pleasant learning environment. The college is named after K.V. Muhammed Musaliyar Kootanadu, a mystic saint who conceived the idea for the institution. The primary mission is to empower and enlighten women through academic excellence and moral values, preparing them to face challenges and nurture an upcoming generation.
Originally a coeducational institution, the college transitioned into a fully-fledged women’s college in 2012, prioritizing holistic education that encompasses the mental, physical, and moral development of its students. This prepares and empowers them to confidently and gracefully navigate a rapidly changing world. The college began with two undergraduate courses, B.Sc Physics and B.Com Computer Application, in 2003. In 2015, additional UG courses such as BBA Marketing, B.Sc Psychology, and B.Sc Geology were introduced. The college was upgraded to PG status in 2017 with the introduction of M.Sc Physics and M.Com Finance, alongside B.Sc Chemistry.
