Objectives of the Readers’ Club:
The main objectives of the Readers’ Club are to:
Make students acquainted with self help and motivational books.
The context:
Reading is one of the most important skills in personality building. It helps to improve the structure of your language. It is only through reading you can get acquainted with world knowledge. It also enhances the quality of your thought process by adding various dimensions to it.
The Practice:
At the very beginning of the academic year, the notice of Readers Club is circulated all the classes. In very first orientation lecture the associated teacher explains the rules, regulations and the methodology of the Readers’ club and provides them the list of books that should be read in the upcoming year.
The activity takes place on every Friday at 2 p. m. At least two students present themselves on the selected books. The presentation session is immediately followed by the question answer session in which the presenter tries to clear the doubts in the minds of the audience. The teacher puts forth his comment on the books presented by the students.
At the end of the year members of the Readers Club are provided a form in which they have to furnish details of the books they have read. Department of English conducts an interview of selected students on the basis of the information provided by them in the form. This interview contains the questions based on their reading. Through these interviews three students are selected as Best Readers and they are rewarded in the form of books by College.
Evidence of success:
Now the members of the Readers Club have become not only good readers but also good speakers. Now they can confidently state their opinion on any book they have read. There is a considerable development in their personality and their elocution talent.
